District officials credit expanded support programs and community partnerships for the improvement.
Newark Public Schools announced its highest graduation rate in over a decade, with 84% of students earning their diplomas in 2026.
The figure represents a 6-point increase from the previous year and marks the third consecutive year of improvement for the district.
Superintendent Roger León credited the gains to expanded counseling programs, community partnerships, and a focus on student wellness.
"This is a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and families," León said. "We've invested in the whole child — academic, social, and emotional support — and it's paying off."
The district plans to expand its mentorship programs and career-technical education offerings in the coming school year.
